Chiropractic

Complete, perfect health only comes when your nervous system is free and clear to function without interference, and that is what chiropractic is all about.  The goal of our office is to detect and eliminate nerve interference by detecting and correcting vertebral subluxations.

What is a Subluxation?

Subluxations occur in many joints of the body as well as within the spinal column, which is made up of 24 bones (7 in the neck, 12 in the mid back and 5 in the lower back).  When any of these joints shift from their normal position, pressure or interference occurs within the nervous system.  In other words, subluxations are spinal injuries.

Our nervous system: 1) makes all movement within the body possible, 2) gives rise to all our senses, 3) makes us able to swallow, 4) enables our heart to beat among many other things.  It also controls our liver, spleen, lungs and all other organs.

Research in prominent medical journals show that only 8-10mm of pressure (the weight of a dime) can not only reduce spinal nerve transmissions but the same pressure can interfere with the nutrition of a nerve (JMPT Journal).  Furthermore, stretching a nerve only 6% can decrease its strength of impulse by 70%. Most importantly however, nerve compression can exist without pain (SPINE Journal).

Fun Fact

Pain is the last symptom you feel when your spine is subluxated and is the first symptom to go.

How does a Subluxation Occur?

The developer of chiropractic, Dr. D.D. Palmer said that subluxations occur from physical, chemical or mental stress and such simple things as learning to walk, experiencing falls, having poor posture, excess sitting, disease or weight changes.  In other words, everyday life can lead to subluxations, which may or may not cause pain.  Loss of function, reduction of the joints' range of motion or weakness may be other symptoms.

Dr. Laurenti will do a complete spinal exam to detect these subluxations and provide you with a treatment plan.

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."  - Thomas Edison
