The healing art of acupuncture has existed for thousands of years. It is based on the natural ability of the body to heal itself – much like chiropractic. The human body has an innate ability to heal, especially if it is assisted with the proper parameters and given no interference.
Acupuncture balances the body’s energies. It is very different from Western medicine in that it uses no drugs or surgery. Thousands of years ago there existed no antibiotics or other drugs. The Chinese medical practitioners had to discover how to heal the body by natural means. They discovered that the body is divided into a number of channels of energy along which exist particular points. When these points are stimulated there is a reaction within the human frame. The body's reaction is to release endorphines, which are the body's natural painkillers, however acupuncture also helps in the rehabilitation of the particular health concern by the balancing of energies.
Dr. Laurenti has graduated from McMaster University’s acupuncture program and is a fully licensed chiropractor certified to practice acupuncture at his clinic. Dr. Laurenti is licensed under the Acupuncture Counsel of Ontario and has been practicing for over 20 years. The acupuncture needle used is so thin - about 5-6 will fit inside a hypodermic needle that you get when giving blood. *Smaller than a mosquito stinger.
A patient seldom feels an acupuncture needle because of its size. Acupuncture laser or a non-needled acupuncture application are options for patients who prefer an alternative to the acupuncture needle.
Acupuncture is an extensively researched modality. The use of acupuncture along with chiropractic has historically been a powerful compliment of healing practices to assist in the treatment of patients.
